Ascariasis in Children

​

Intestinal infestation caused by Ascaris lumbricoides.
 

Diagnostic Criteria

 

  • Suspect worms infestation if the child present with fever, chronic nonproductive cough, dyspnoea, wheezing.

  • Plus stool microscopic evidence of Ascaris lumbricoides ova.

Investigation

 

  • Stool Analysis for Ascaris lumbricoides ova.


Treatment


Pharmacological treatment

  • Give Albendazole 200mg single dose (children below 2years), 400mg PO for older children OR

  • Give Mebendazole PO 500mg as a single dose (children above 1 year)
