Gatro esophageal reflux Disease(GERD) in Children


GERD is a disorder resulting from gastric acid and other gastric contents into the oesophagus due to incompetent barriers at the gastro oesophageal junction leading to inflammation of the oesophagus.
 

Diagnostic Criteria

  • Heartburn and regurgitation

  • With endoscopic evidence of mucosal inflammation
     

Investigations

​

  • Oesophageal Gastroduodenoscopy (OGD)

  • Contrast Barium swallow

  • The 24-hours oesophageal pH

 

Treatment

​

  • Give Omeprazole PO 1mg/Kg once daily for 8 weeks OR

  • Esomeprazole PO 10 mg once daily for 8 weeks
