Mlo wa kushusha shinikizo la damu bila kutumia dawa kama utatumika ipasavyo umeonekana kuwa na ufanisi mkubwa kwa mgonjwa na huondoa haja ya kuendelea kutumia dawa za kushusha shinikizo la damu. Mlo ulioandikwa hapa unatokana na mpangilio wa "Mlo wa kushusha shinikizo la juu la damu" (MSL) huu ni mlo maalumu kwa ajili ya kujiikinga na kuonda shinikizo la damu.
MSL ni mpangilio maalumu wa chakula cha kushusha shinikizo la damu. Mlo huu ulipangwa kwa mara ya kwanza kupunguza kiwango cha chumvi mtu anachokula ili kudhibiti shinikizo la damu. Msingi wa MSL ni kupunguza kiwango cha chumvi kwenye damu.

Unapochagua mboja za majani, chagua zile ambazo hazina chumvi na ambazo si za kusindikwa. Kama huna uchaguzi mwingine tumia ambazo zimesindikwa lakini zenye chumvi kidogo sana.
Hakikisha unasoma kuhusu vilivyomo kwenye vyakula unavyonunua dukani ili kujua kiwango cha chumvi, nunua vyakula vyenye kiwango kidogo cha chumvi. Kama unapenda kitu chenye sukari, nunua matunda ya kukaushwa.
Tumia mbadala wa baadhi ya vyakula vya kununua, mfano kama unataka kula tambi, tengeneza tambi za kutumia mchele wa brauni, au ngano isiyokobolewa au mchele mweupe.
Mazoezi siku zote ni muhimu katika kuimarisha afya.
Tumia vitabu na maelezo muhimu kuhusu vyakula ili yakusaidie na kukufanya uwe na taarifa za hivi karibuni kuhusu vyakula mbalimbali.
